Around 1830, Mexican explorer Rafael Rivera discovered land with beautiful green meadows.
In Spanish he called it “las vegas.”
The meadows disappeared when the sustainable groundwater was drained.
In recent years I began to understand the difference between surviving and thriving. I knew I was simply surviving. To thrive I had to redefine who I am, learn what I need, and choose it again and again.
Beneath the Meadows is about my choice to thrive.
Using abstraction I reshaped my surroundings to create new worlds of what I wanted to see.
It was my groundwater feeding the meadows.
